			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Boston, MA –</strong> Dan Berlin, a recent graduate from Bentley College’s McCallum Graduate School of Business, has been named the first senior research associate at OTOinsights.</p>
<p>Berlin, 31, began working last month at OTOinsights, located in Charlestown, MA. This advanced research division of One to One Interactive is focused on utilizing neuromarketing research techniques to measure human emotional response to media. Currently, the organization analyses human bio-feedback, neuro-feedback, and sociomotor response to websites, digital advertising, videos, and mobile applications to understand factors that contribute to positive and negative engagement.</p>
<p>Berlin received a B.A. in Psychology from Brandeis University, and holds dual M.S. in Human Factors in Information Design (HFID) and MBA degrees from Bentley College’s McCallum Graduate School of Business. He is a member of the Usability Professionals’ Association (UPA) and the Association for Computing and Machinery’s special interest group on Computer-Human Interaction (ACM SIG/CHI).</p>
<p>“This opportunity is very exciting for me as I believe the innovation that OTOinsights is bringing to the advertising and research industry, particularly as it pertains to quantifying how individuals engage with media, is the next major evolution of measuring marketing/advertising effectiveness,” said Berlin.</p>
<p>In his new role, Berlin will be responsible for designing research protocols, organizing and performing neuromarketing research within the firm’s Quantemo Lab in Charlestown, MA, and analyzing data from these studies.</p>

The study set out to find how the top 10 user-generated builds in SecondLife compared with the top 10 corporate builds. In making these evaluations,particular attention was paid to production quality, publicity and advertising, social infrastructure, role of commerce and population density. Based on their findings, the t=zero team offers five insights for the design of future branding and marketing-oriented builds in virtual worlds.</p>
<p>&#8220;OTOinsight’s t=zero initiative is an industry-academic collaborative research project between One to One Interactive and Indiana University’s School of Informatics. Our objective is to determine useful measures of user engagement and experience with digital and social media&#8221; said Jeremi Karnell, Co-Founder and President of One to One Interactive. &#8220;Our first publication,focused on Serious Games for Marketing, is meant to take a stepback and objectively evaluate what worked and did not work in the rush to establish early footholds in Virtual World spaces. This business unit will focus on the emerging discipline of neuromarketing and will offer a collection of both primary and secondary research to brands,agencies, and publishers. Initial OTOinsights products include:Quantemo, a neuromarketing research lab; t=zero, a secondary research offering that provides clients with timely critical analysis and insights about emerging digital platforms; and RedOktober, a trend-spotting service. The birth of the OTOinsights business unit began earlier this year with One to One’s acquisition of the Quantemo neuromarketing research lab. Quantemo offers a scientific approach to measuring a target audience’s emotional reactions to digital media via five modalities including:</p>

<li>Physiological stress through the measurement of heart rate,  respiratory rate, and galvanic skin response,</li>
<li>Neurological focus by measuring EEG traces,</li>
<li>Behavioral via eye/mouse tracking technologies and digital  video recordings of research participants,</li>

<li>Interrogative via traditional survey research methods. Data  collected is correlated on a second by second basis and assessed  depending on the type of study performed. Quantemo currently  offers usability testing and media effectiveness research.</li>

<p>The second core product offered by OTOinsights, t=zero, is a collection of findings gathered through an ongoing partnership with researchers at the Indiana University School of Informatics. The team of researchers, which is led by Shaowen Bardzell, Ph.D. and Jeffrey Bardzell, PH.D., specializes in cultural computing in computer-mediated social spaces such as video games massively multiplayer virtual worlds and social networks. Current t=zero research projects are focused on affective interaction withinternet videos, “serious games” for marketing, user engagement with in-game advertising, and successful disaggregated media applications on social networking sites.</p>

The Quantemo Lab, its brand and technology will become the foundation for a neuro-research lab that’s currently in development at One to One’s professional services division OTOi. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.</p>
<p>Quantemo was developed to measure emotional reactions and physical responses to web pages and provide deeper insights for clients who were building new corporate presences on the web or optimizing existing sites. The lab uses bio-feedback monitoring technologies to record brain waves, skin conductivity, respiration,heart rate, and eye tracking to measure test subjects’ physiological and neurological reactions to visual stimuli.</p>
<p>“In this age of corporate accountability brand teams need to know what they’re getting in return for their advertising and promotional spends. Wait-and-see just doesn’t cut it,” said IanKarnell, CEO and co-founder of One to One Interactive. “Acquiring the Quantemo lab and its technology helps us to shore up the research and analytic offerings we’re making available to our clients.”</p>
